grandparents scam
This scam is a variant of the emergency scam.
An individual contacts the victim by posing as a grandchild in trouble or a person in authority, such as a medical professional, police officer, or attorney.
The scammer describes an urgent or emergency situation (bail bond, medical expenses, emergency travel funds) involving a grandchild who needs a money transfer sent immediately. There is no emergency and the victim who sent the money to help her grandson has lost her money.

Lottery scam or prize
The victim is told that they have won a lottery, prize, or sweepstakes and must send money to pay taxes or fees on the winnings. The victim may receive a check for the winnings, but the check will bounce after the victim has sent the money and deposited the check.

The victim is led to believe that they are in a personal relationship with someone they met online, usually on social media, in an online forum, or on a dating website. The victim often feels emotionally involved and refers to the beneficiary as her fiancé or fiancée.
